The Leopard Tree: Free Kindle Book

Editor's Note: This book is powerful. It isn't your average lighthearted read - it's much deeper than that.

It will inspire you to do what YOU can do in your own sphere of influence to make a positive difference in your world.

Book Description:
Three Kenyan orphans on a desperate quest to tell the United Nations their story.

Readers who like Mason's Daughter by Cynthia Stone or Saving Mars by Cidney Swanson will like this book.

Author's Inspiration: This book was written with the hope of raising awareness of the millions of people in Africa who suffer the effects of malnutrition, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and the unspeakable atrocities associated with armed conflicts. The Leopard Tree won the Best Young Adult Fiction Award in 2008 with Writer's Digest International Self-published Competition and a Third Place EVVY in the Fiction Division of Colorado Independent Publisher's Awards in 2008.

Actor that would play the main character:  Julia Roberts

From the Book: 'Tears traced glistening trails through the chalky red dust on Daudi’s face. He did not attempt to wipe them away, just watched the slow drip, drip from his chin land in the dirt at his feet. Each drop exploded as it hit the earth, leaving a tiny crater behind, until enough tears had fallen to settle the dust. Still he watched the ground, anything to avoid looking at Mamere’s plain wooden casket as it sank into the trench that was nowhere near as deep as his pain. Sounds of mourning replaced the shrill, beautiful morning calls of weaver birds. The preacher-man handed him a fistful of the rich red earth and pushed him toward the gaping hole with its slender box. Gently, he said, “Daudi, you must toss it onto the coffin. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. It is written.”

An Island Between Two Shores: Free Kindle Book

The story is so well told, by turns poetic and brutal, that it has huge emotional impact, gripping the reader from start to finish.

Book Description: Discover a story that reveals how to risk everything to be true to yourself.

Trapped on a desolate arctic island, Liana is pushed to the edge and must face her elemental fears. It is a haunting tale of the biting physical toil survival often requires. Graham Wilson simultaneously strips down the American adventure novel while broadening its concerns to encompass themes of compassion and belonging. It is a universal tale told with a simplicity and directness rarely seen today. An Island Between Two Shores is an unforgettable story of hope and possibility.

Readers who love Jack London and Cormac McCarthy will like AN ISLAND BETWEEN TWO SHORES.

The author's inspiration for this book: I have lived in the Yukon since 1986. I like to paddle, ski and climb and have explored much of the north. My writing is influenced by these adventures.

The Dark Lake: Free Kindle Book

The book has stuck with me for days after reading it and I've read through it twice now!

Important: Repressed memories are sometimes worse than the truth.

Meet Jane. She can't get sober, keep a job or get on with her life. She's still living with her parents. Her therapist thinks it is all due to a traumatic event she can't remember. Then, when they drag her car up from the bottom of the lake, it starts coming back to her. That car went in the lake twenty years ago. She must remember what happened that night. She would do anything to avoid remembering.

"The story is told in a stream of (sub)consciousness style. The style is reminiscent of Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar." - Best selling author Jt Kalnay

Here Among Us: Free Kindle Book

I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes a book with strong characters, introspective themes, and a light, humorous touch to all of the above!

When unemployed San Francisco attorney, Flynn O’Shea, and her teenaged daughter, Didi, are summoned to New Jersey for the Thanksgiving holiday by Flynn’s socialite sister, Maeve, she expects a fight.

After all, she has been battling Maeve most of her life. Disagreeing about the extent of their Irish mother’s creeping dementia and the fate of the family’s thriving restaurant business, named for their beloved, long dead father, Paddy, is surely a recipe for a world-class brawl.

What Flynn doesn’t expect is the fragile truce the sisters forge to save O’Shea’s from the clutches of Maeve’s scheming husband, Jeffrey. Flynn and Maeve are reluctantly aided by their forty-four-year-old brother, Osheen, a handsome Peter Pan still cruising the Jersey shore, getting high and dodging responsibility.

And while Didi tries to convince her mother that “everything is as it should be,” just when Flynn is sure she’s gained the upper hand on Jeffrey, her own mother’s shocking confession sends her into a wine-soaked tailspin and forces her to deal once and for all with the ghosts of her past. Devastated, Flynn must choose to save O’Shea’s or risk losing forever all she has left of her father.

In Here Among Us, the O’Sheas find themselves dealing with the very timely issue of Alzheimer’s, a disease that strips the victim's identity and wreaks havoc on the family left to pick up the pieces. But Flynn, Osheen and Maeve’s troubles began long before their mother started to “slip.” For the O’Sheas, much of their shared angst is rooted in the single most devastating event of their lives—the death of their father when they were young children. The novel explores not only how deep wounds can seem impossible to heal, but how the O'Sheas' refusal to let go of the stories they desperately cling to about who they are, threatens to hasten their demise.
