Incarcerated : Free Kindle eBook

Editor's Note: Looking for a quick read? We've found a zombie story that may be short on length but long on action and entertainment!

THe gruesome story will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Book Description: Bill Sanders is an innocent man on death row being wrongfully accused of killing his wife. A new inmate enters the prison with a bite mark on his hand that triggers a zombie outbreak inside and outside of the prison. How will Bill choose? Should he should stay secure in the prison or get back his freedom amongst a zombie apocalypse?

Fans of Max Brooks will love INCARCERATED!

Author's Inspiration: A friend of mine is a corrections officer at the prison in Pittsburgh. He would tell me stories of the violence that took place on a daily basis by the prisoners and the danger he had to experience. This gave me a good vision since I have never been in jail. Months later I was watching Stephen King's "The Stand" on Netflix. There was a scene where one of the villains (Lloyd Henreid) was trapped in a prison cell and there was no one left alive to get him out. I had a cool scene pop in my head of zombies reaching through the bars and immediately started writing.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Dylan McDermott

James Straka

I'm a big fan of horror whether it's on television, movies, or reading a good Stephen King book. When I write, I try to cram in as many scary scenes as possible to create a piece of writing that people will find difficult to put down. I live in Monroeville, PA with my wife Julia and our daughter Jillian. Our house is minutes away from the Monroeville Mall, where "Dawn of the Dead" was filmed.

Favorite Food: My favorite food would have to be either Mexican or pizza.

Favorite Place to Write: I write in a spare bedroom that my wife and I converted into an office. I love sitting at my desk and drinking a hot cup of coffee while listening to some 80's glam metal. For some reason this relaxes me to write more than sitting in silence.

Favorite TV Show: My wife Julia and I are big fans of "The Walking Dead", "American Horror Story", True Blood", and most recently "Bates Motel".

Amidst Traffic: Free Kindle Book

Editor's Note: This is a collection of literary and theological short stories, compiled from the author's best work over the years. If you're looking for a bit of Christian Fiction to read, grab this one!

A unique collection of engaging symbolic poetic prose that challenges the reader to reflect on the potential impact of one life on another.

Book Description:
"Amidst Traffic" is a collection of high-caliber, interconnected short stories with a literary flair:

A short-order cook digs a hole in his back yard to escape nightmares of mutilated children; A woman covers her body in tattoos to hold on to emotions that continue to slip away; A soldier who returns home from Iraq struggles with the idea of gratitude, which, if resolved, may save his marriage; A man begins a game of watching strangers to see what it feels like to play God.

All of these stories, and others, are linked somehow. With each tale, more lines and connections begin to form. What initially feels like chaos, gradually begins to take order. A purpose exists that is unveiled by the end.

Every story is crafted with a sense of compassion for the human spirit, while seeking answers about the conflicts we live through in everyday life. The characters in these stories will make you care about their struggles and hope for their redemption.

Those who like Cormac McCarthy, Richard Bausch, Tobias Wolff, Raymond Carver, or Tim O'Brien will like AMIDST TRAFFIC.

Author's Inspiration:  This collection was written in reaction to the existential movement in contemporary literary fiction. These stories show the meaning behind human connections and the impact people have one the lives of others.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Jared Leto

From the Book:  Lyonya defined her life by the tattooed words scribbled on her skin. They ran like trails of broken thoughts. Idioms lost, clashing against one another like cars mangled across a stretch of highway. Those tattoos. They were a habit among her many.

Little Terrors : Free Kindle Book

Editor's Note: LITTLE TERRORS is a collection of chillingly scary short stories sure to make you shiver in fear!

Little Terrors is a thrilling and fascinating amalgamation of literary genres and intuitive storytelling!

Book Description: A unique, thrilling, and haunting compilation of horror and ghost stories. From the psychotic and sociopathic monologues of Polystyrene Man and Last Words; the eerie tales of The Sleepover and When the Reaper Smiles; to the bitter sentiments of Wipeout and the redemptive misery of Ante Up, Little Terrors offers an eclectic mix of the horror genre.

Those who love Stephen King, Joe Hill, and Clive Baker will love LITTLE TERRORS.

Author's Inspiration:  I've always loved to read and write short stories. The first thing I ever had published was a short story and since then (ten years ago) I always find time away from novel writing to pen a few shorts. Writing novels can be a frustrating business, it's a long and sometimes tedious process, but with short stories you can get the story idea fleshed out quickly and have an end product within a day or two.

From the Book: Extract from "Wipeout" a story about a bitter old woman and her problem neighbour:

As she sat and listened to the song she clenched her jaw and ground her hardened gums.

Frankie, her next door neighbour, was an utter contemptuous bastard. There was no denying it. If the past few nights, and indeed the last ten years, was anything to go by, then this repetitive hippy bullshit wouldn’t let up for another hour. By then she’d be wide awake; her tablets worn off, her day ruined.

She grabbed at the phone, dialled 999.

“The bastard’s at it again,” she told the operator straight away.

The operator sighed. She recognised the voice and the number showing on her screen. “Mrs Henderson, I’ve told you--”

“You’ve told me nothing,” she interrupted aggressively. “I’m sick of this. I’m seventy-fucking-five years old. I shouldn't have to put up with this shit!”

“Listen, Martha, may I call you Martha?”

“Noyoumayfuckingnot,” she hissed in one breath.

“Mrs Henderson. We’ve sent the police out far too many times, we’ve told you before, this is an issue that you need to resolve with--”

“Fuck you!” Martha spat.

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

She slammed the phone down, muttering obscenities under her breath.

The Hankering (A Short Story) : Free Kindle Book

Editor's Note: THE HANKERING is a short story full of the three d's for a good quick read : drinking, debauchery, and double-dealing!

You are drawn in to the lives of the characters and their surroundings. I just wish it didn't end so soon!

Book Description: The Hankering is a short story about a 1920's juke joint and the chaos that arises between the corrupt cops that raid the establishment and the hot-tempered owner. Lots of drinking, debauchery, and double-dealing.

Those who enjoyed Terry McMillan's Mama and Toni Morrison's Sulawill enjoy THE HANKERING.

Author's Inspiration:  I wanted to try to capture the essence of a colored barrelhouse during the early 1900's.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Jada Pinkett Smith

From the Book: Buford Tee thought back to the first time he ever saw Miss Carmelia. It was at the Hankering the night her ex-husband was killed. The Hankering was located down by the railroad in Wayne County, open only on weekends, the only time most coloreds had off work. It was a place for them to get away from the weightiness of the workweek, and particularly, from their white employers, to enjoy a night or two of drinking, of course, but gambling, a little sex, or rather a lot of sex, and dancing also satisfying the desires of the patrons.

Locals made their way to the Hankering in a variety of ways: on horseback, by horse-drawn wagon loaded down with patrons, and even on tractors on loan for the evening from their employers, which pulled flatbed trailers filled with men and women desiring an evening of unbridled pleasure and unadulterated entertainment.

Kirk has always been fascinated with science fiction and horror, writing short stories in school and during his free time. Over time, his fascination has grown beyond simple tales of biting and being trapped in a confined space. He Tweaked My Nose, Officer: Free Kindle Book

It's a real look into the world of parole officers and how their attitudes affect their work flow.

Natalie Tosh is a probation officer who seems to get more than her fair share of odd cases. Paul Tosh (the author) is her husband, who has to listen to Natalie’s work stories over dinner. Paul is lucky. While most husbands have to hear about spiteful bickering and futile office politics, Paul is privy to a firsthand slice of life from the less-glamorized segment of American society. Now you are, too.

In this true account, we learn the story of a man who is no longer a free citizen because he could not resist the urge to “tweak his grandmother’s nose.” We watch the case unfold during Natalie’s normal daily routine, during which we also experience the frustrating ebb and flow of a unionized government work environment which breeds some of the greatest unpublicized leeches on taxpayer resources.

This short story has been professionally edited and specially formatted for all Kindle devices. We promise your electronic reading experience will be smooth and enjoyable. Check this one out.

Paul Tosh

My wife is a probation officer. That means I have to listen to these stories after she comes home from work. I do my best, but it's not always easy. Some of them are certainly better than others, but I have gotten in trouble for drifting off in the middle of her work stories a bit too often.

Lately, I have had the (brilliant?) idea to start writing some of them out as short stories. The result has been good for my domestic situation. Suddenly I am all ears, asking questions and rooting out additional details when she tells me about her day. She seems to be appreciative of my obvious increased interest. Sometimes I have to ask her to repeat certain parts, and she is only too happy to oblige. If she only knew why, I would probably be in even bigger trouble than I was when I wasn't paying close enough attention.

All the names must be changed in these probation officer stories, including mine and the county/state that she works in. I can't risk any problems in her career over my new pet project. She is, after all, the one getting us a pension.

As you have probably guessed, I am a terribly selfish person who is only capable of focusing on my own personal interests. But I'm working on that. I hope you found some kind of value in my story, be it educational, revealing, or purely entertaining. Heck, I'm just glad somebody read it. Thanks.
