Swanee: A Paranoid Thriller : Free Kindle Book

Editor's Note: Searching for a menacing thriller with an unexpected ending, then look no further than S'WANEE!

The pacing of S'wanee will keep you on your seat and I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Book Description: A high school kid is recruited to the college of his dreams, tucked high in the Tennessee hills. He loves his new family of friends and professors...until they start to die off mysteriously.

Readers of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Cornell Woolrich, and Arthur Machen will enjoy S'WANEE.

Author's Inspiration:  The book is based on a real place: Sewanee, the University of the South. I remember it as a child, and I went back to visit a couple years ago. It's a beautiful, magical place, so naturally I had to turn it into a nightmare.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: A younger Shia LaBeouf

From the Book: Dinner was subdued, and there was more food to go around and more places to sit and spread out. The rumblings of anger and rebellion that flared over the past few days had quieted, and Rebel’s Rest simmered down to calm acceptance. Long gone were Caleb’s booming voice and Skit’s throaty cackle. Absent were Vail’s sweet demeanor and Bishop’s and Emerson’s testosterone-fueled one-upmanship. Post-dinner study time was oddly quiet without Sin’s soothing piano as Cody struggled through an essay on the main themes of Hamlet.

“Why are so many people dying?” Cody asked, and Banjo said, “I don’t know,” and Elliott said, “I don’t know.” They’d all wondered the same thing.

The Book Of Phinn : Free Kindle Book

Editor's Note: Sometimes love is worth breaking all the rules for.

It was thought provoking and very interesting. Before I knew it I had finished reading it!

Book Description: Phinn is a 16 year old immortal. An Angel responsible for taking the souls of good teens that die to Heaven. Mortals can't see him, so high school can be difficult for him. It gets even more difficult when a girl, a mortal girl, a girl Phinn really likes, notices him and lets him know she likes him. When he gets the call that she has killed herself, he breaks the rules and rushes her to the Pearly Gates. And then, all Hell breaks loose. THE BOOK OF PHINN is the first book in the Immortal Blog series.

Readers who love the Twilight Series or The Beautiful Creatures series will enjoy THE BOOK OF PHINN.

From the Book: Hey, Phinn here.

I'm an Angel. A 16 year old immortal. You don't know me. You've never seen me. Unless you're a dead teenager and you've been good and live in Southern California (narrows it down, huh?). If that's the case, we've probably met. See, I take the souls of good kids to Heaven, but I'm not allowed to interact with the living...which makes high school, being on the soccer team and writing for the school newspaper a little difficult. As an angel, I play by the rules.

My "arch-frenemy" Iszn, the demon who takes the bad kids to Hell, breaks all the rules...which is why he's one of the most popular kids in school. Iszn's hobbies are football, human girls, football, torturing me, football and evil....did I mention football?

Anyway, as an Angel I try not to have any direct contact with humans...well, that is until I met this girl. Actually, until she met me...it's kind of complicated. That's one of the reasons I write my blog...to let you guys in on a world you probably didn't even know existed...until it's too late, anyway.

But this world does exist, and it's about to get complicated. There are some deaths we can't explain and only Iszn and I seem to want to get to the bottom of them. It's going to cost us...a lot, but we can't let it go.

So ya, enjoy the blog...comment if you want. I read all the comments and try to respond. And don't let Iszn freak you out...to my knowledge, he's never actually eaten anyone's face.

Cya inside :)

Frank Anjakos

Frank Anjakos lives in the Wild West, where he avoids writing about anything Western. Upon graduation from college in Michigan he was unwilling to get a real job, and so went to law school at the University of Arizona, where he studied listlessly, overcome by the desert heat, and obtained a law degree in the usual amount of time. After recovering from the stifling law school style of writing, he returned to his true passion, fiction…both writing and living it. Coerced by his son Finn, he turned away from adult science fiction and began writing children’s books. Now, if he could just get his son to actually read one.

I love to write, with my boy sitting by me, in a small coffee shop around the corner.

Deadly Offerings : Free Book for Kindle, Nook and Apple

Editor's Note: We've found an intriguing read with the perfect blend of rousing romance and heart-stopping suspense. The story and characters will captivate you. Grab it today and we think that you will agree!

This book caught my interest on the first page and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Book Description: In DEADLY OFFERINGS, Anne Mason thought she safe on her mid-western wind farm, until dead bodies show up all over her fields. These "gifts" are from a disturbed cold-blooded serial killer that is patiently waiting and watching her every move. He shows no signs of stopping until she's dead.

Anne seeks protection, but only finds mistrust when the new county prosecutor is her ex-husband's attorney. Will she be able to trust him with her life, but moverove can she trust him with her heart?

Fans of Catherine Mann, Alison Brennan or James Patterson will enjoy DEADLY OFFERINGS.

Author's Inspiration: I wanted to write a book featuring a strong female lead in unusual, dangerous circumstances, who unexpectedly finds love at the same time she discovers she is targeted by a serial killer.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Michael Brandt would be played by Colin Egglesfield, and Anne Mason would be played by Natalie Portman.

From the Book: Anne looked in the rearview mirror and gasped; a sliver of panic cut through her. A man in a black ski mask was slammed against her seat, thrusting a gun in her face.

She punched the accelerator, pitching gravel and dust in the parking lot. She screeched onto the road, nearly sideswiping a pickup truck. Fear crushed Anne's lungs and she could barely breathe.

“Turn right at the stop, Anne,” he growled.

Christ, how did he know her name? She turned at the stop, her mind racing to remember what she had learned at her self-defense class. Stay calm. Stay calm and in control. Yeah, well that was a bit hard when there was a gun pressed to your cheek.

Calm down. Anne took a deep breath and tried to focus. She would not be this thug’s victim. She would not.

Worse Than Being Alone : Free Kindle Book

Editor's Note:  Is there a fate worse than being alone? Well you will find out in this intriguing cozy mystery from Patricia Clark!

This book will appeal to any cozy mystery fan.

Book Description: WORSE THAN BEING ALONE is a riveting tale involving multiple cons, a vicious murder, romance, betrayal, and escape as it vividly explores just how far all of us are prepared to go to avoid being alone. Two women sleuths are on the trail of a Black Widow and manage to breakup a sex slave ring, thwart a bank robbery, and nab a murderer in the process.

Those who like Tess Garitsen, Kathy Reichs, and Kay Hooper will enjoy WORSE THAN BEING ALONE.

Author's Inspiration:  This story is loosely based on a friends fear that her father had married a Black Widow. The workers' compensation vignettes are composites of situations and characters I encountered as a nurse case manager.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Charlize Theron and Sandra Bullock

From the Book: I don’t remember ever being alone for the first eighteen years of my life. Shared bedrooms, a bath and a half, and limited common space virtually guaranteed there would be no reprieve from the prying eyes of my parents and nine siblings. That probably accounts for my long-held belief that the worst thing that could happen to a person was being alone. Now I know I was wrong.

After twenty five years working as an ER and ICU nurse, a creative writing course launched a new career. All of my books involve composites of patients, workers, colleagues, and situations based on my medical experiences. Humor is a major element in my books, the consequence of being born into a family of ten children and countless eccentric aunts and uncles.

Favorite Food: Carbs! I miss them so much!

Favorite Place to Write: Currently working on third book in the Cleary Case Files series as I relax in my study with the Macbook before me.

Favorite TV show: Love the British thrillers on TV and Netflix..

Choking on a Camel : Free Kindle Book

Editor's Note: Faith and religion can be a struggle and you can come out stronger in it or without it.

This is a thought provoking story.

Book Description: Alex Ferguson has a saint’s heart and a skeptic’s brain. When her atheist brother is killed in an accident, she’s slammed by the horror of what her religion actually teaches: God ordained the accident and sent her beloved brother to hell. She wrestles with the God she wants to love but maybe hates and definitely doesn’t understand.

As she fights for understanding, temptation strikes where she’s most needy and vulnerable.

Readers who like Peace Like A River, Olive Kitteridge, and A Visit from the Goon Squad will enjoy CHOKING ON A CAMEL.

Author's Inspiration:  I have thought about the issues raised in this book for a lifetime. I wrote the first draft twenty-some years ago and put it away because I wasn't sure that I had any answers to the troubling questions the book raises. In 2008, the questions were raised again for me when my friend's son was killed in Iraq. I wrestled for four years and finally came to some conclusions that enabled me to write the ending to my book.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Jennifer Lawrence

From the Book: “Remember, we only see the underside of the tapestry in this life, and the threads look like they’re in tangled confusion. But—”

“One day,” Mrs. Burns broke in, “we’ll see the tapestry from the right side, and we’ll see the beautiful picture God created.”

As if anybody’s dying and going to hell could ever be a beautiful picture. Mrs. Dowd intoned, deepest conviction lending extra weight to every ponderous word, “God is in control.” Boulders hurled from a theological catapult.

Alex shuddered as the words struck her. “Yes.” She closed her eyes against a sudden wave of nausea. “Yes, I know.” Job’s comforters. Her throat became choking tight, so tight she couldn’t swallow her own saliva. In control? In control? What does that even mean?

Michal Ann McArthur

Michal Ann McArthur lives in awe-inspiring Central Oregon with her knights in shining armor, her husband and son. She loves a hot cup of tea with family or friends and has been known to run into the street barefoot to watch the sun set behind the Cascades. She’s spent a lifetime considering the issues raised in this book.

She became an author because she just couldn't help herself. She knew writing was a terrible way to make a living, but she had so many stories burning in her brain she had to let them out.

I love the outdoors, especially the ocean and the Cascade Mountains, which seem almost like members of my family. I get up at 2:45 AM every morning, get my husband off to work, and then write in the silence of the wee hours. For maximum joy and creativity, I have to have my Starbucks mug full of steaming hot tea with too much cream. My favorite TV show is The Big Bang theory. One of the best movies I have recently watched is The Life of Pi. Brilliant. I wish I'd written it.

Author's Inspiration: I wrote this book as an ode to all the strange people I've some across in the strange environment that is the work place.

From the Book: *** One of the reviews from The Office Idiot Reviews***

 Ronhill Men's Advanced Racer Shorts

“Almost too short”

Norman Hogsbottom, the man, the boss, the supplier of plugs, is what the sign on my desk states. That’s right, I sell plugs. However, being all of these things doesn’t mean a man doesn’t need to stay fit. I bought these running shorts after seeing the London marathon on TV. I found myself telling the office junior, Sandy, that I had already signed up and been accepted for next year’s. I’m not sure what I was thinking; at the time I’d not run since Iwas at boarding school during shower time with Dirty McWandery hands, the games teacher.

Pete Sortwell

Pete is 32 and lives with his wife, Lucie, and their pet sofa, Jeff. He's been writing for just under three years and they've been pretty eventful; well, more eventful than he thought sitting on Jeff, typing, would be, anyway.

First published in the Radgepacket anthology with a story he'd written during month five of his new hobby, Pete's now featured in a total of ten different anthologies and has been amongst some very fine company. (Although I've been the best in all of them, I know that because both my Mum and Jeff told me and they're both honest-to-God Christians ... possibly.)

Favorite Food: Cheese, of all descriptions. Except the stuff with holes in, but no one likes that.  Favorite Place to Write: Sitting on Jeff, my sofa.

Favorite Music to Listen to: A chap called Maps. check him out it's great music.

Favorite TV Show: anything funnier than me. It's a wide spectrum.

Flying Soup : Free Kindle Book

Editor's Note: Flying Soup is like the Daily Show with John Stewart - full of witty satire on politics and religion that is sure to make you laugh!

I love how this book sucked me into it in the first page.

Book Description: FLYING SOUP satirically follows the story of three budding internet entrepreneurs thrust into a political and religious controversy by the content on their website. A televangelist, a mega-church preacher, politicians, techies, and a host of unsavory characters and find entertaining ways to screw up their lives as they race toward a surprising and violent conclusion.

Readers who liked The Bonfire of the Vanities, A Man in Full, and Jailbird will enjoy FLYING SOUP.

Author's Inspiration: Oddly, the inspiration from the book came from two actual events. The first was the minor bicycle accident described at the beginning of the book. The second was an teenage employee I had some years ago who described to me a joy riding hobby he and his friends had of raiding their mothers' pantries for canned goods, then throwing them of of their car at pedestrians.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Justin Timberlake

From the Book: “Hoffman, I waited for those men to come to my house, and they did. I sat on my couch with the gun in my hand. I didn’t check to see if it was clean. I didn’t check to see if it was loaded. Another man might say I was stupid for doing that, but another man wouldn’t know it was Jesus’ pistol. I had faith, you see. When those other men came, I shot them down like dogs and then I buried their bodies in the desert, where they’d never be found again."

Bobby Adair

As I think back to the things I always wanted to be when I grew up, paleontologist, astronaut, and writer. I grew out of my paleontology aspiration. An unfortunate legal problem arose when I was a senior in high school and blew my Air Force Academy appointment. Then, the only dream that stuck with me through my life was that of being a writer and I just love doing it. As my friends might say, it provides an outlet for all the BS that I apparently spin.

I think it provides a creative outlet with therapeutic side benefits. I've written a half dozen novels so far but have never done much in the way of getting them published. Most, sat on my hard drive, unread by anyone but me. Flying Soup, will be the first novel I've put any real effort into getting out there into the world. Wish me luck!

Favorite Food: I love a good hamburger and couldn't imagine life without them.

Favorite Place to Write: I like to take my laptop and write anywhere where there are people milling about but not bothering me, indoors work but when the weather is nice, I prefer outdoors. There's a great coffee shop in Austin with a very large deck, shaded by ancient oaks, on the edge of Lake Austin. Great place to write!
