As avid readers ourselves, we know you’re always looking for new ways to check out the latest books. Did you know that a popular way to do this is through something called beta reading?
Beta reading services match readers with unpublished manuscripts. These programs allow readers to give feedback, which helps authors develop even stronger books. You + beta reading = happier authors and better books.
Please note: Our team will contact you if openings become available.
In order to become a beta reader, simply fill out our short form below. This process is completely free and easy. But the best part is that our program is customizable to you. Tell us what books you want to read and then wait for the manuscripts to come in!
Here’s how it works:
1 – You fill out the form below to submit your application.
2 – A Freebooksy team member will personally reach out to you if we have availability open up.
3 – As soon as we have a manuscript ready for you, we’ll send this to you in an email with the manuscript included as a Microsoft Word attachment.
4 – A week after you have received the manuscript, we will send you a follow-up email with a survey link. That survey will enable you to provide us with your feedback on the book.
5 – Once you send us your feedback, you’ll stay in our Beta Reader database and will be notified the next time a book of your liking becomes available.
FAQs
Q: Will the author see my feedback?
A: Yes! But all feedback is anonymous, so if you don’t like the book, you are free to express yourself without hurting anyone’s feelings. We encourage total honesty – it helps us create a better book.
Q: How long do I have to read the book?
A: We’ll give you 2-4 weeks to complete it. If it’s going to take you a little longer, we ask that you email us to let us know. Our goal is to provide feedback to the author quickly.
Q: What if I don’t want to finish the book?
A: That’s no problem! You will still be asked to fill out the survey about the parts of the book you did read.
Q: Will I get updates on the book? How will I know when the book gets released?
A: At the end of each survey you will be able to indicate if you want to be alerted when the book comes out.
Q: Do I get paid for reading these books?
A: Unfortunately no. At this time we do not offer payment for beta reading. However, you do get to read the book at no cost.
Q: Why should I be a beta reader?
A: Personally speaking, we think it’s pretty cool and exciting to take part in every reader’s dream – reading the next great book before anyone else!
