Saving Jackie K : Free Kindle Book

Editor’s Note: Need a some thrill that doesn’t come from an expensive trip to Disneyland? Check out SAVING JACKIE K!

A thrill ride through time, space and history!

Book Description:  There is a desperate escape from a tyrannical government, which leads to a mind-boggling journey to alter history. Along the way the shocking truth about a sinister conspiracy is revealed.

Readers who like Dan Brown, Michael Crichton, or Harry Turtledove will like SAVING JACKIE K.

Author’s Inspiration:  What would have happened if JFK had lived?

From the Book: Tera Banks clambered up the rungs on the side of the Chamber, a six-foot diameter aluminum-coated sphere resembling an enormous fishbowl. Dropping into its hollow core, she crammed herself and the bulky parcel on her back next to the petite frame of her mentor, once renowned physicist Dr. Iggy Mikos. She grasped the handle on the hatch and creaked it closed, enveloping them in darkness. “He’s coming. Punch it!”

Iggy stabbed at backlit buttons on each end of the Converter, a twelve-inch-long barbell-like device with a handhold in the middle. Her finger slipped. Patience. Feeding on Sera’s impetuousness could get them both killed. She steeled herself and counted off the memorized sequence. “Here we go!” They strapped on oxygen masks, and she entered the final keystroke.

A blinding flash of light and a deafening roar consumed the Chamber. The two scientists shrieked in agony before passing out.

Unsung Giant : Free Kindle Book

Editor’s Note: This is a fresh take on Norse mythology involving Thor and his mischievous brother Loki.

Unsung Giant is a vivid and exciting page-turner that really brought characters of Norse mythology to life.

Book Description: Everyone knows of Thor, Asgardian god of Norse mythology, destined to be the future King. But what about his notorious trickster brother, Loki? Traditionally portrayed as a character who is always up to mischief, at war with the gods, and wreaking havoc on all the nine realms, Loki is neglected, misunderstood and overlooked. Unsung Giant is a fast paced tale following the wild adventures of Loki, uncovering the mystery of his true nature, on a journey to save Asgard and all the worlds, including our own human realm, so that the end shall not come to a pass.

Those who enjoy The Bourne Series, Life of Pi, and The Host will enjoy UNSUNG GIANT.

Author’s Inspiration:  My two daughters are my inspirations, for my writing, and for everything else. The storyline of Loki has had me intrigued — not many are interested in Loki. But as I began writing, and bringing Loki to life, I fell in love, with Loki’s own misunderstandings within society giving me further inspiration to create a rebirth for this hero.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Tom Hiddleston

From the Book: Finally, Odin made a decision. He left the defeated giant on the cold floor and sheathed Mjollnir on his waistband. The All-Father reached the throne in a stride and delicately cradled the boy in his arms. Seeing that the child was cold, the great King of Asgard tore off his silken cloak and snugly wrapped the infant. He immediately noticed that the child had warm brown eyes – eyes that looked to him as if the child was silently entreating to consider a decision in his favor – and not the red, battle-hungry eyes of his fellow Jotuns. No sooner than the cloth touched the boy’s skin, the cobalt pigment dissolved and gave way to a fair color – the color of an Asgardian noble.

Jennifer Pendon

I’m a lore and myth enthusiast, writing short stories, essays and poetry about all sorts of mythical heroes and legends. Writing is my passion, and I get lost in the worlds that I create as an author. My husband has always wanted to be an educator, and is now pursuing college, and this has given me the push I’ve needed to start chasing my own ambitions. It has always been my dream to be an author and publish my own books, and even now that I’m working several jobs, supporting my family and two beautiful daughters, I continue to write during the little spare time I have. It is my goal to create entertaining stories, and I just hope that my readers enjoy reading my stories just as much as I enjoy writing them.

Favorite Food: My favorite foods are pasta, ice cream, cakes and chocolates. (Too childish? I’m a dessert person, you see.)
Favorite Place to Write: Since my house is small, I write either in front of the PC in the living room, or on the dining table.
Favorite Music: Pomp and Circumstance by Elgar, any piece by Beethoven or Mozart. For modern music, there’s Dido, Kenny G, Vanessa Mae, the British sting quartet called Bond, also Metallica, Eagles, Queen, Bon Jovi. Actually, I have no particular band or group — as long as the sound is pleasing to my ears, it’s good for me.
Favorite TV shows: CSI, CSI Miami, Master Chef, America’s Next Top Model, anything on the Discovery Channel, Alias (when it was still aired).

Young Gifted and Bad (Sweets Maybrey) : Free Kindle Book

Editor’s Note: YOUNG GIFTED AND BAD is the second of the Sweets Maybrey series that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Its a crime novel from a unique perspective!

Book Description: This is the second novel in the Sweets Maybrey series. Sweets has assumed control of black crime in west Philadelphia but uneasy is the head that wears the crown. Murder surrounds him, the dagger points sharp, the hands holding the daggers both known and unknown. He expands his territory, making war with the Mafia. This adds to the enemies in his camp and in his bed. How will Sweets sort through friend from foe and come out victorious?

Those who like Walter Mosley will like YOUNG GIFTED AND BAD.

Author’s Inspiration:  In 2003 my father and brother both passed away. Both were criminals – my father was a numbers runner and my brother a thief and hustler. I knew neither person well – they kept their criminal lives fairly hidden. Still, I learned more than I wanted about how they each conducted their business. I wondered, especially as my father wasted away in a hospice, what I would have done if he had presented me with the option to follow in his footsteps. What choice would I have made? In the Sweets Maybrey series, the main character has to make this decision and, once committed, live with the consequences.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Chris Brown

From the Book: I climbed the steps in my roach killers, which by some miracle still gleamed in the pale light leaking in from the grocery below. I had my left hand on my neck and my right hand, my best for shooting, among other things, on my nickel-plated Detonic Combat Master .45 automatic. The gun, too, gleamed, and although I cleaned it regularly, as the old heads encouraged me to do, I didn’t shine it as vigorously or as often as I shined my shoes. I walked softly up the steps, in case someone was waiting for me. No one was waiting. The whole world, it seemed, had taken cover, expecting the worse. Waiting, breathing slowed just a bit, just like me. I will kill the next person who walks into my office. I don’t know who it will be, although I have some ideas.

Barry C Davis

I have been writing for 10 years, primarily novels but also short stories and screenplays. I write because I have strong opinions and novels are the best way to convey those opinions while offering captivating entertainment. I was born in the ghetto and write from that vantage point. Although I have expanded into horror and fantasy novels my bread and butter is urban fiction. The Sweets Maybrey series is based upon assimilated knowledge of Philadelphia’s criminal machinations. My goal is to bring the reader inside the sex and crime while revealing the humanity behind the brutality.

What is your favorite food, place to write, music to listen to, TV show?: My favorite food is, of course, a real deal Philly cheesesteak. I love to write at 3AM in my spare bedroom with a cup a coffee at my elbow. My favorite shows are Justified and Elementary.

Next History: The Girl Who Hacked Tomorrow : Free Kindle Book

Editor’s Note: History running forwards and backwards? NEXT HISTORY explores this idea and it’s simply riveting!

Next History took me on a wild ride to the future, any future I could imagine!

Book Description: Tharcia is in search of her mother for an epic showdown – only she is dead. She uses magic and technology to seek her mother out only to ensare an enchanting oracle, that will reprogram the world as she knows it. What will Tharcia glean from the oracle? Will she change the fate of humanity or her own?

Those who enjoyed Amped, Wired, Ringworld and Angels and Demons will enjoy NEXT HISTORY.

Author’s Inspiration:  What got me started was a review of creation mythologies from a dozen world cultures. I wondered, what if we’ve had these all wrong, what if there were revealed an absolutely *true* version? I saw flaws in the tale of mythical Lilith, and in developing her story, found certain knowledge that could reveal our next history.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character:  Jennifer Lawrence

From the Book: At first it seems like another Homeland Security mass-fear distraction to deflect attention from the latest wretched unemployment numbers, a short news crawl on the major TV networks: Pentagon in Total Security Lockdown. White-hot on the former 5-color DHS threat scale, meaning we are beyond at-risk and currently under attack, so tune to local AM station, place head between knees and fondly kiss your ass bye-bye. This is replaced minutes later by another crawl, a baffle-worded retraction. Threat Levels Normal. Most viewers chuckle sardonically and let it go. The tweet-blizzard fades, traffic choked off by big-iron military counter-intelligence denials, and that seems to be that.

Lee Baldwin

I am a novelist in Santa Cruz, California. I have waited 25 years to be able to say that, through a half-dozen careers including my own creative copywriting agency in Vancouver (Canada) and Hawaii, operating an advertising business in Honolulu, and 17 years as a human interface designer in Silicon Valley. It was worth it.

My characters often have a quirky edge, because I see human foibles as the launch points of dramatic conflict. That and my musical ear help me shape dialog and narrative into rhythms of dramatic reveal, turning points, and cadences.

Escape fiction generally satisfies the reader’s hunger for vicarious experiences. You know, the cool stuff. Such as glamorous adventure, epic situations, sex and romance, and overcoming great obstacles. I get fiendish pleasure whenever I can spice these situations with wry humor.

I think about plot and character during long walks on the Rio Del Mar beach. I write at home. I fly gliders and drive race cars, which gives my adventure scenes realism. I listen to (and play) jazz keyboards. I goof off.

Alex : Free Kindle Book

Editor’s Note: ALEX is a portrait of grief, madness, and the furious strength of a father’s love for his son.

Alex is a heart wrenching mind bending ride!

Book Description: Six months after losing his only son, Alex, Ian Colmes begins seeing and hearing his little boy again. Ian doesn’t believe in the afterlife, but the visions test the limits of his reason. Is it possible Alex has somehow returned to speak to his father? Or is Ian losing his mind?

Those who love Jodi Picoult, Joe Hill, and Cormac McCarthy will love ALEX.

Author’s Inspiration:  The opening scene from the first chapter describes it pretty well. I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom one morning, getting ready for work, and I heard my son playing in the hallway. It made me pause and smile – reflect, for a second, on the beautiful things in life. Then I thought, “What if he isn’t there? What if I’ve lost him, he’s been gone for months, and I just miss him so badly that I’m hearing things?”

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: Robert Downey Jr.

From the Book: He heard Alex scamper into his room, exclaiming something about a big train, and smiled despite himself. His son’s joy was infectious. He rinsed his toothbrush, reached for the shirt hanging on the bathroom door – and stopped. Closed his eyes, instead, and relished the simple music of his son’s play. Thirty seconds, he thought. Thirty seconds wouldn’t cost him his job. But he didn’t get thirty seconds. Alex fell quiet. Maybe he’d gotten too absorbed in his toys. Sometimes, when the boy was really into them, Ian could find himself wondering if Alex was even still in the house. He would get up to check on him and find him squatting in his room, crouched over his trains and Star Wars guys like a mystic reading tea leaves, muttering earnest pronouncements.

Adam J. Nicolai

I started writing because I have to – I spend too much pondering the mysteries of the universe to not express those thoughts. My children have changed my entire perspective on life, and I need to explore all the ways they have. I also just love words, love playing with them and moving them around and trying to find the perfect way to say something as concisely as possible.

Favorite Place to Write: I write in my home office downstairs. I don’t like to leave my family behind or sequester myself beyond that. One of the greatest things about being a full-time author is being able to be available to them when they need me!
Favorite Music: As for music, it runs the gamut from Rap (Dessa), to Pop (Goo-goo Dolls), to Techno (Propellerheads), to custom remixes of my favorite video game music (DiscoDan or anything good from But not while I’m writing.  I need it quiet while I’m writing.

CONNECTED : Free Kindle Book

Editor’s Note: CONNECTED is the best combination of science, adventure, cliffhangers and lust all tied up into a well constructed story that makes it very difficult to put down.

I found the story to be very original and thought provoking.

Book Description: CONNECTED is a speculative fiction mystery thriller with touches of science and philosophy. It begins with a brilliant physicist trying to comprehend his brother’s suicide. Then it quickly moves into the investigation of many more suicides which takes him on a quest to understand this mind-altering video

Those who enjoy Michael Crichton and William Gibson will want to read CONNECTED.

Author’s Inspiration:  Years ago, at university, a fellow student had a breakdown and was admitted to the local psychiatric hospital. A few, who knew him well, went to visit and reported that he’d subsequently lost the plot and was now gabbling incomprehensibly of having found the answer to life, the universe and everything. While most people seemed consumed with sadness and pity at this, my first thought was, “What if he really had discovered some universal truth?” Although I never seriously believed that he had, it was on that day that the seed of an idea lodged in my young brain – a seed that in the summer of 2002 would germinate into the drafting of the first three chapters of CONNECTED from a cabin in the French Alps.

Actor Who Would Play the Main Character: There are two main characters really: Peter and Doug. Somehow, I can see Colin Firth in the role of Peter, but nobody springs to mind for Doug, so suggestions are welcome.

From the Book: As the coffin was lowered, the sky darkened and a gust of wind ripped through the churchyard, stirring the ancient trees and momentarily lifting the masks of reverent solemnity gathered around the open grave. Peter studied the faces with a detached sense of curiosity. How well, he wondered, had these people really known his brother? His gaze came to rest on Isabelle. Even now – even through the tears – she looked beautiful. He tried to imagine the feelings welling behind those big brown eyes: anguish tinged with guilt, denial, loneliness – perhaps even anger. He shivered. His own feelings were somehow suppressed. His brother was in a box, about to be sealed away for an eternity in the damp, peaty earth beneath his feet, and yet he felt strangely calm, the whole service having washed over him like a dream from which he might awaken at any moment.

Simon Denmen

Born in Eastbourne, to retired parents, Simon Denman grew up alternately on the beaches of a succession of English seaside towns, and in the historic, if somewhat austere boarding school of Christ’s Hospital in Horsham, Sussex.

After graduating from the University of Essex with a degree in Electronic Engineering, he has spent longer than he likes to admit in the IT networking, communications, and Internet security industries, gradually moving from technical to marketing and management roles. During this time, he moved from the UK to Paris, back to the UK, over to Munich, across to the French Riviera, and finally back to England.

Far more importantly during this period, he was blessed with two beautiful and talented daughters, now at University themselves, and, in remarriage, the love of the most wonderful woman for whom a man could wish. While he no longer plays rugby, Simon is a moderately accomplished player of Jazz and classical trumpet, which he blows enthusiastically with any band or group that’ll have him. Any remaining time is spent reading and writing.

Favorite food: Since meeting my wife, who is from Istanbul, I think Turkish food has become my new favourite, but I’m still very fond of Italian and Japanese cuisine.

Favorite Place to Write: I can write anywhere really, but since I occasionally suffer from back pain, I find lying on the living room rug, propped up on my elbows for an hour or so at a time, can be quite effective at straightening me out again.

Music tastes: I love all music from classical, through jazz and right up to contemporary singer / songwriters such as KT Tunstall, Katie Melua and the late Amy Winehouse.

Favorite TV show:  House MD.
