How to Find Free Books on Apple Books

Apple Books, Apple's digital bookstore and reading app, offers a huge library of eBooks across all your favorite genres. While many of these books come with a cost, there are also lots of free books to be discovered. Whether you're an avid reader or just looking for a few good books without breaking the bank, this guide will show you how to find free books on Apple Books.

What is Apple Books?

Apple Books is the official app for reading eBooks or listening to audiobooks on Apple devices. The only way to access this app is from iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad, or Mac computers. Unlike other platforms like Amazon Kindle or Kobo, Apple does not sell a dedicated e-ink reading device.

How to Access the Apple Books Store

Unlike other online bookstores, Apple makes it a little tricky to access it's store. While you can access some direct eBook links and top charts in a web browser, you won't be able to see the whole store or purchase/download books without using the app. The Apple Books app should already be downloaded on your Apple device. If it is not, just click here and you'll be able to find the app.

Once the app is on your device, simply click on the Apple Books icon and it will open. You can also click on 'view in Apple Books' on a specific book via a web browser.

How to Find Free Books on Apple Books

Where to Find Free Books on the Apple Books Store

Now that you are in the Apple Books app, we'll show you how to find those free books you've been searching for. (Note: these steps are while using the Apple Books App on a Mac, it is a similar process on iPhone but the menus will be in different locations)

On the left side of the screen, click on 'Book Store'.

How to Find Free Books on Apple Books 2

When in the Book Store section, scroll down until you find 'Top Charts'. The free charts will be on the right. Now click on 'See More Free' at the bottom of the section.

How to Find Free Books on Apple Books 3

Now you can browse through the current top free book charts on the Apple Books Store.

How to Find Free Books on Apple Books 4

While the Top Charts have some fantastic free books, you'll likely want a more extensive list. To bring up more options, click on the search bar at the top left of the app. In this box, you can search for 'Free Books' to see a longer list of free titles. You can also add a specific genre to this search query like 'Free Romance Books' to see a more specific collection.

How to Find Free Books on Apple Books 5

It's that easy, while you won't be able to find all the free books on the Apple Store, this method definitely offers a decent selection of free books.

How to Find Kindle Books Based on My Favorite Authors

When you have a favorite author and you finish reading all of their books, it can be hard to find other books and authors that captivate you the same way your favorite author does. You might be wondering how to find books similar to your favorite authors, and while it can be challenging to find books that will scratch the same itch, it’s not impossible.

With a bit of research, you can uncover books that are similar in style, subject matter, or tone to your favorite authors. From looking at blurbs to looking at lists, here are several ways to discover more great books and authors. By taking the time to explore each of these options, you can uncover Kindle books that will be just as enjoyable as ones by your favorite authors!

Tip 1: Pay Attention to Book Blurbs

If you’ve ever noticed quotes from different authors on a book cover or in a book description, you may know that these are called book blurbs. While these promotional descriptions can be helpful for getting a better idea of what a book is about, the blurbs can also be great at helping you find similar authors.

For example, Beach Read author Emily Henry has a blurb for Second First Impressions by Sally Thorne. Both authors write contemporary romance novels, so if you enjoy books from one author, you’ll likely enjoy books by the other.

Tip 2: Utilize Goodreads Lists to Find Similar Authors

Goodreads is a vast database of books and a thriving community of book lovers. The website allows readers to rate books and create lists based on genres, themes, and writing styles. The best way to use Goodreads to find books similar to your favorite authors is by exploring the "Lists" section.

Whether you’re looking for book recommendations based on other books, authors, authors, or even characters, the “Read Alikes” book list section has you covered. For instance, if you are a fan of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, you can check out the list “If You Like Harry Potter You Might Like…” to see what books you’ll likely enjoy reading next.

Tip 3: Products Related To This Item on Amazon

Did you know that Amazon will suggest similar Kindle books when you are browsing their website? If you pull up a book’s page and scroll down, you’ll see the “Products Related To This Item” section. There, you’ll find dozens of books by authors who are similar to the one you’re browsing.

For example, we browsed the Amazon page for a spy thriller book and found similar spy and action thrillers listed on this section of the page.

With these results in mind, this tip is a simple way to help you find books written by authors who are similar to your favorites.

Tip 4: Look Closely At Book Descriptions

Book-related newsletters and websites, such as Freebooksy, are a great way to discover new books and authors that you might not have otherwise come across. One of the ways these newsletters can be especially helpful is by mentioning specific authors in their descriptions.

When a description highlights an author you love, it can be a good indication that the book you're reading about will be similar in style or subject matter. This can help you quickly identify new books to add to your reading list that you're likely to enjoy.

If you’re ready to get started on finding more Kindle books based on your favorite authors, go ahead and sign up for the Freebooksy newsletter. Your Kindle will thank you later!

Not only is social media great for following your favorite authors and staying up to date on their books, but following different publishers and other book-related accounts makes it easy to find books to grow your library with. Following content creators who post about fantasy books, thrillers, or any other genres is a simple way for more books to make their way to your TBR list. Content creators will often have book reviews in their post's captions, so you're able to learn more about the book before adding it to your TBR list.

If you have any favorite tropes, social media is perfect for finding more books with those tropes! For example, if the enemies-to-lovers romance trope holds a special place in your heart, looking at #enemiestolovers on Instagram will help you find more books with that trope. Currently, there are over 560,000 posts with that hashtag, so you're sure to find more books with this tip. This works great for other tropes and genres, too!

Consult Bestseller Lists

Bestseller lists provide a great way to identify books that readers have found most interesting. This can be useful if you’re looking to grow your Kindle library with new and trending books. They can also be a great source of inspiration, since seeing the most popular books can give you ideas for other books that you may be interested in reading. Whether you’re looking for books in a particular genre or something more specific, bestseller lists from the New York Times, Amazon, and other top sources can help you find what you’re looking for.

This can be especially helpful if you’re interested in staying up to date on books that are new and trending. Because trends can come and go quickly, bestseller lists can help you stay up to date on what’s currently popular.

Look at Book Recommendation Lists

With so many books to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which ones you should add to your digital bookshelf. That's why book recommendation lists can be such a valuable resource. They can be found on a variety of websites, such as Freebooksy, NewInBooks, and Goodreads, and they’re typically tailored to specific genres and categories.

Book recommendation lists are especially useful for avid readers who are always on the lookout for new titles to add to their library. They are great for discovering new authors, genres, and topics that are currently trending in the literary world. Plus, they can be used to find a variety of titles from a wide range of topics. Whether you’re looking for cozy mystery series, psychological thrillers, or romance series, book recommendation lists are there to help.

Overall, book recommendation lists are an invaluable resource for readers looking to grow their Kindle library. By taking the time to explore different suggestions, readers can find great reads from both established writers and lesser-known authors alike. They're an excellent way to expand your horizons and discover new titles that you may not have come across otherwise.

The Kindle app can be downloaded onto most devices, so this is one of the best eBook apps you can download. Whether you’re team Apple or team Android, the Kindle app can be downloaded on whatever device you would like to read on.

However, the Kindle app doesn't allow readers to purchase eBooks in the app and this unfortunately does apply to downloading free Kindle books as well. You can search for free books there, but the app doesn't provide a way to download them. Instead, you'll have to go to Amazon's website to download them. You can look at the "Downloading eBooks for a Kindle Device" section of this article for steps on how to download free Kindle eBooks!

Once you have logged into your Amazon account on the Kindle app and you have downloaded a free eBook from Amazon's website, you should be able to see your downloaded book in the "Library" tab of the app. If you’re having trouble finding your downloaded books, we have another article that can help you find your downloaded books!

Synching Books To Your Device

If you’re having trouble getting your eBooks to show up on your Kindle, we recommend going into your Amazon library and ensuring that your eBooks have been downloaded to the correct device. You can do this by navigating to Your Content and Devices on Amazon’s website.

Once you pull up your content and devices, you'll be able to re-send previously downloaded books to the correct device like this:

You should be able to select a device to re-deliver the book to from this list that comes up. We also recommend double-checking that your Kindle is properly connected to WiFi so that your eBook can download with no problems.

How Do I Find My Downloaded Books on My Kindle?

You read the reviews, downloaded the sample (and loved it), and now you’re ready to roll. Time to read that fresh eBook. But where is it? How do you find downloaded books on Kindle?

eBooks bought for Kindle are associated with your Amazon account, not your device, so you may have to take a few troubleshooting steps to find your downloaded titles across your eReader, phone, tablet, etc. Here’s how.

Finding Downloads on the Kindle eReader

If you’re reading via the Kindle eReader device:

1. From your Kindle home screen, tap the “Library” tab. On our Kindle Paperwhite, this tab is located in the bottom right corner.

2. At the top of the Library page, tap the slider icon. From there, you can select "Downloaded" books so you will be able to view your list of downloaded books.

Kindle eReader Downloads Troubleshooting Tips

• Make sure your eReader is connected to the internet

• Make sure your device is connected to the right Amazon account

Check to see that your payment details are up to date in your Amazon account (an expired credit card means you can’t purchase new eBooks, for example)

Sync your Kindle via the “Sync Your Kindle” button in the top navigation menu

Use Amazon’s “manage your content and devices” tool to make sure the eBook has been delivered to the app (or device)

Restart your Kindle via Settings > Device Options > Restart

Reset your Kindle to factory settings via Settings > Device Options > Reset (note that this will remove all current downloads)

Finding Downloads on the Kindle app

If you’re using the Kindle app on your phone or tablet:

1. Open the Kindle app.

2. Tap “Library” in the bottom menu.

3. At the top of the Library page, tap “Downloaded.” Here, you will find your list of downloaded books.

Kindle App Downloads Troubleshooting Tips

If you still can’t find your Kindle books in the app library:

Make sure your device is connected to the internet

Make sure you have the latest version of the Kindle app

Check to see if your Kindle app is synced with the right Amazon account

Make sure your payment details are up to date (an expired credit card means you can’t purchase new ebooks)

Sync your mobile Kindle app

Use Amazon’s “manage your content and devices” tool to make sure the eBook has been delivered to the app (or device)

Delete the Kindle app and download it again (note that this will remove existing downloads)

Adding Downloads From Other eBook Stores and Libraries

Amazon allows readers to download books from other digital storefronts and libraries and add them to their devices and to the Kindle app. Kindle accepts a number of file formats, including .doc/.docx, JPEG, HTML, PNG, and EPUB. Make sure the file type you’re using is compatible. You can find a complete list here.

Here are a few steps to make sure you’ve correctly added eBooks from another source:

1. Download the file to your computer or phone

2. From your device, tap Settings > Your Account > Send to Kindle email, then copy the email address listed

3. Using an email server of your choice, open a new email and plug that Kindle email address into the “To” line

4. Attach your eBook files and tap “Send”

5. Wait a few minutes, then refresh your Kindle

6. Your newly downloaded eBook should appear in your Kindle library

6 Small Town Books for Fans of Gilmore Girls

In the first season of the show, we meet young single mom Lorelai Gilmore and her academically gifted 16-year-old daughter, Rory. To help pay for the expensive private school Rory was accepted to, Lorelai asks her wealthy parents—who she is not close to—for assistance. But these small towns offer readers more than just an aesthetic; there is an intimate familiarity to many of these fictional locales that draws people back again and again. Paired with a cast of characters who have known each other for years, small town books are perfect for readers looking for a comforting read to immerse themselves in.
